San Antonio Takes SO Win 4-3

Texas never led in tonight's game against the San Antonio Rampage but managed to salvage a point out of the contest by taking things to overtime. Ultimately, Texas fell in the shootout with Andrew Raycroft dropping his first AHL start since 2006. Texas was 0/5 on the power play, which has dried up recently, and had a porous 3/6 PK showing.

The Stars allowed an early power play goal on a fluky play from the Rampage. The puck took a weird bounce off the faceoff and ended up on the stick of Tim Kennedy, who beat Raycroft before the tender even knew where the puck was. James Wright added yet another PP tally for the Rampage just before the 15 minute mark of the period. Texas closed the period down 2-0 and being outshot 16-7.

Texas turned the tables in the second period, outshooting San Antonio 13-6 and outscoring them 3-1. Colton Sceviour potted the first of the night for Texas, his sixth of the season, assisted by Garbutt and Labrie. The even strength tally came just 2:36 into the period and set an early tone.

Ryan Garbutt took an ill-advised five minute major penalty just past the halfway point of the period. Texas showed their best PK work on the major. Matt Fraser even added his 17th goal of the season shorthanded, breaking out to set the score at two each. Unfortunately for all their good work, San Antonio scored on the very last second of the penalty to make it 3-2. It was Kennedy's second goal of the night.

The game tying goal came from an unlikely source. Eric Godard scored his first goal of the season to knot it at three. Ondrej Roman assisted.

After the back and forth game, of course these two teams would need extra time to decide things. After OT, San Antonio scored three straight goals to Texas's zero for the shootout 4-3 victory.
