It was a matter of motivation tonight in Cedar Park for the Texas Stars and the Oklahoma City Barons. The Stars got the monkey off their back last night with a win in Milwaukee, clinching their playoff berth for 2011. Oklahoma City needed at least a point in the game to make their playoff berth final. It was clear that one team had more to fight for than the other.
The Stars sat three of their top players who needed rest before the playoffs: Colton Sceviour, Greg Rallo and Philip Larsen. Texas never quite got up for the game, failing to net a goal in the contest. Despite the playoff lockdown, Aaron Gagnon says, "We can't just let these games pass by. It's something you don't want sneaking into your head. You still want to show up and compete."
Oklahoma City waited until the second period to open up the scoring on Texas. Milan Kytnar collected his 13th of the year off the rush with a puck that crawled up Bachman's torso, up and over into the net.
The only other goal of the game came just as a power play expired and was, for all intents and purposes, a PPG. The Stars were caught deep in their zone on the second of back-to-back minors. Outchanged by the Barons, Texas gave up a goal on a cross-crease pass from Brad Moran to Colin McDonald, his 41st of the year.
Texas was outshot through the game and ended with a 32-22 shots deficit. Richard Bachman had a good performance with 30 saves on 32 shots.
