Same story, different night for these Texas Stars against the Houston Aeros. After tonight's 4-1 thumping, Texas stands at 1-6-1-1 against the Aeros on the season. Unfortunately, Texas faces Houston 3 more times this year. "Some years, some teams have your number," said Maxime Fortunus post-game. "But we've done it once and if you've done it once, we can do it again."
The night started out with the Stars chasing the Aeros from the outset. Justin Falk made it 1-0 only 61 seconds into the game off a rebound. Recently returned center Travis Morin came out like a pinball on a shift in the middle of the first and finished the shift by taking a boarding call. Morin appeared shaken up after the play and did not return to the game. Houston did not score on the power play, but did score shortly thereafter off the stick of Jed Ortmeyer. Texas went to the room down 2-0 after 20. "We can't start the game down two-nothing because we're chasing all game long," said Fortunus.
Texas continued the chase in the second period, but it was all Houston once again. Patrick O'Sullivan scored his 3rd goal in two games against the Stars to make it 3-0. O'Sullivan was completely unguarded by the net and had all the time in the world to pot his 6th goal of the year in only 9 games played.
The Stars broke up the shutout for Anton Khudobin in the third with a nice wrister from Colton Sceviour that beat the netminder stickside high. However, Cody Almond got one back almost as quickly and closed out the scoring.
The best parts of the night for Texas may have been the fisticuffs with Jordie Benn showing off the boxing lessons that he and his brother, Jamie, took in the offseason. Jordie's dance partner, Colton Gillies, left the ice bleeding from his face quite profusely.
